Welcome to TBE’s Men's Club

Temple Beth El is fortunate to have an active Men's Club which offers a variety of informative, educational and entertaining social activities that are of interest to most everyone in our community. Our programs are open to all adult TBE members - both male and female - so we welcome you to be part of the Club!

We are ALWAYS looking for assistance and individuals who can get involved in lots of different ways. If you have a great idea or a connection to a potential speaker, we want to hear from you. If you can think of a fun family and/or adult event, give us a call. If you can help us set up for a Sunday breakfast or want to become part of the breakfast crew, you're hired.

Men's Club Activities

The Temple Beth El Men’s Club hosts a breakfast speaker series one Sunday per month during the school year. For a nominal fee an ample breakfast buffet (eggs, lox and bagels, whitefish, breakfast potatoes, fruit) is followed by a speaker. Past programs have included national and state politicians, TV personalities, educators, sports figures, and local businesses. Some of the unique speakers have included the only person to run marathons in all 50 states and climb Mt. Everest and a talk on Delaware’s vast underground art storage business. The breakfasts are open to all Temple members. Note: During the pandemic the programs are held via Zoom at no charge.

What Is Scrip? Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for Temple Beth El.

How scrip generates revenue for Temple Beth El The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip cards from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. TBE Men's Club administers the fundraiser by buying the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount on your behalf. The discount - from two to fifteen percent  or more – is revenue for Temple Beth El.

Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising” Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. TBE congregation members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

TBE’s 21 years of dedication to the Scott Mackler Assistive Technology Program of the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter - In 2000, shortly after being diagnosed with Lou Gehring’s Disease, Scott Mackler, MD,PHD, (TBE member) started a 5K walk/run event with his family, friends and the TBE community of volunteers to help support ALS care and research. This annual event has raised over $2.5 million to fund the Scott Mackler Assistive Technology Program at The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Even after Scott passed away in 2013, after a long battle with ALS, Temple Beth El has continued their commitment to Scott’s vision, and under the leadership of the Men’s Club has held this event for 21 Years. Our most recent 5k event on Oct. 25, 2020, was held virtually. The donations raised during the walk have supported thousands of ALS families in the tri-state region. Patients and their families have been able to utilize assistive technology such as invaluable speech devices, and many tools needed to be able to enhance the quality of communication with their loved ones and the world.
