High Holidays Information

PLEASE READ ~TEMPLE BETH EL IMPORTANT HIGH HOLIDAYS INFORMATION

Consistent with our priority for the safety and well-being of our congregants, Temple Beth El is implementing updated guidelines effective immediately.  Our immediate goals are safer participation in upcoming High Holiday services and for our Religious School.

Because the Covid-19 Delta Variant situation can change very quickly, there may be other changes as the High Holidays grow closer.  Please watch your email, TBE’s Facebook, TBE’s Instagram and TBE’s website closely to stay in touch on possible changes.

IN-PERSON PARTICIPATION

  • Proof of complete vaccination must be on file with TBE or shown to the greeter when entering the building.
    • To put a copy of your vaccination card on file, please email a copy to mmaybroda@tbede.org
  • Unvaccinated people, and especially children who are not vaccinated, are not currently allowed in the building.
  • Reservations are required for High Holy Day services.  To register, call Michelle Maybroda at (302) 366-8330.
  • Masks are mandatory for all attendees. Please ensure you have one. There will be some available in the lobby if you forget.
  • Singing, except behind the transparent barriers, is discouraged.
  • When possible, please bring your own kippot and for the appropriate services (Rosh Hashanah mornings, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur morning), and your own tallit.
  • Please, no socializing in the lobby. Meet and talk outside the building for everyone’s safety.
  • Social distancing is mandatory. Please leave at least 6 feet (2 chairs) between family units to allow for social distancing.

RITUAL AND SERVICE CHANGES

  • Please refrain from kissing of mezzuzot on our doorways
  • Please refrain from kissing the prayerbooks, or the Torah scrolls
  • Alliyot will be done from your seat, or over Zoom if not attending in person
  • Other honors, such as ark openings, will be announced. The actual honor will be done by the people already on the Bimah. Unless specifically asked beforehand, please remain at your seat.

ZOOM

We have made changes so that Zoom participants can now be heard through the PA system in the Sanctuary, so they can participate more fully.

HIGH HOLIDAY PRAYERBOOKS

  • We will have High Holiday prayerbooks available for pick up during registration on August 31. There is no ‘online version’ of High Holiday prayerbooks
  • Additional prayerbook pick-up may be done by coming to TBE on Wednesday September 1 or Thursday September 2, 9am – 5pm.
  • If you pick up a prayerbook and then decide to come in person, please bring the prayerbook you took to the service(s) you are going to attend. That will ensure that we have books for all.

BIMA FLOWERS

If you would like to sponsor Bima flowers in honor or memory of someone, please contact our Administrator Michelle Maybroda at either mmaybroda@tbede.org or call Michelle at 302-366-8330.

ATTENTION: HEBREW SCHOOL PARENTS

  • Due to enhanced precautions, all MORNING programming for children during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur has been canceled.  This includes babysitting, the K-2 service, and the 3rd - 7th grade youth service.
  • Alternatively, we are encouraging all families to attend AFTERNOON Family Services on those dates.
    1. For Rosh Hashanah, we will hold the Family Services at 4pm outdoors at Paper Mill Park. Tashlich will follow.
    2. Plans for outdoors Yom Kippur AFTERNOON Family Services will be announced shortly.
  • Adina Mattes, our Education Director, will be sending out more information directly to parents about the updated guidelines and the start of Religious School.

Thank you and stay well,
